August is fast approaching, with thoughts of getting back in the routine for school. But a few weekends remain before class begins and the summer lingers through August and early September, providing lovely weather for family camping trips and weekend excursions to enjoy the end of summer beauty of nature.
Taking the family camping or fishing or for a day hike with a yummy, packed picnic offers beautiful opportunities to bond over teaching new skills to your young ones, climbing a mountain (or even a hill), tying a lure, putting up a tent or just jumping from rock to rock across a babbling brook. Or laughing over a collapsed tent or landing on your behind while attempting to cross that silly stream! Making the experiences positive and fun-loving will anchor the memories.
Now is the time to take the opportunity while the campin’ is good to make beautiful memories you and your children will treasure the rest of their lives. Never camped before? Check out our article “First Campout with Your Family: Make it a Winner” on page 8 for tips on how to make an overnight or weekend in nature a great experience for your whole family.
