started publishing North State Parent magazine in 1993 as a way to share
positive resources for
raising or working with cihldren in our region. As a mother of four sons, it was important to me
to make sure parents could take advantage of the area’s many artistic and educational offerings. And, it was equally important to provide information about resources for parents whose children have special needs.
Playing outdoors is one of the many gifts we all can enjoy just by living in this region. I’m certain my own children benefited from the times we spent at lakes and rivers and other beautiful natural play spaces throughout the North State. They also learned how important it is to preserve this natural world if we want to continue to enjoy it as our playground. Our mountains, valleys, creeks, rivers and lakes are rich in opportunities for biking, boating, swimming and hiking; and we must

work together to protect and preserve this land so even our children’s children will also enjoy it in the future.
North State Parent Magazine publishes the free Family Resource Guide twice a year — in March for the spring/summer season, and in September for fall/winter. It’s a special “go-to” place for family resources all over the region. North State Parent also publishes digital editions each month — you can read them any time at NorthStateParent.com.
