The timeless stories of Dr. Seuss come to life on Friday, September 18, in Seussical Jr., a kids’ musical that’s great fun for the whole family. Watch as Horton the elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and other favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in a fantastical musical extravaganza at Chico State’s Laxson Auditorium.
The show features a cast of young actors from Blue Room Young Company, and will be the company’s 14th family-friendly Chico Performances production to date. The Seussical Jr. cast features over 36 performers, ranging in age from 6-16, performing many of the fun and silly Dr. Seuss book adventures kids love.
The show’s director, Tom Billheimer II, has directed kids’ musicals with Blue Room Young Company for more than a decade and is excited about making this Seussical Jr. performance different than any other. New twists include live music, wacky costumes and colorful set designs. The set and its silly constructions, including Truffula Trees, will make you believe you are in Whoville.
Tom credits an amazing team with helping the show be a success, including Music Director Josh Hegg who works hands-on with the kids and band. The show’s choreographer, Kaila Davidson, has choreographed over five shows with Blue Room.
The young cast of Seussical Jr. is very enthusiastic and has been rehearsing since early July. Baily Martin, 15, is performing the role of Mayzie La Bird and is thrilled to be playing the part because she gets to act “flashy and loud.” Gertrude McFuzz is being played by Zoe Karch, who is excited about working with the Blue Room Young Company and says the cast feels like family. Ultimately, the show is about the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community.
Don’t miss out on experiencing the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss in Seussical Jr.! The Blue Room Young Company, Chico Performances, and Enloe Medical Center have partnered to present this exciting adventure.
The September 18 performances are at 9:30 & 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets visit the University Box Office on the corner of 3rd and Chestnut streets in Chico, call (530) 898-6333, or visit ChicoPerformances.com.
