The North State is full of fun services to make raising your young child even sweeter. Here are four happening places that are ready to brighten your lives this spring. For more fun events see northstateparent.com/calendar.
Shasta Sign Language, Redding
Tonya Devine is ready to help your child “learn to sign now for better communication later.” Until April 13, Tonya is offering baby sign language classes at The PlaySpace in Redding every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30am. Starting April 22, Goddard Music School in Redding will host Tonya every Saturday for two separate classes: Baby Sign Language (ages 0-3) and American Sign Language for preschoolers (ages 3-6). Tonya also offers private tutoring for American Sign Language beginners. Email questions to Tonya at Shastasignlanguage@gmail.com
Taming Tangles, Chico
Tammie Harvey and her crew at Taming Tangles are used to “tears when kids have to leave rather than tears when they first arrive.” Taming Tangles aims to make your child’s first haircut a memorable and fun experience. Each first haircut comes with a certificate and an attached lock of hair. A lollipop and balloon are free incentives for older, hesitant children. Time in the playroom after the haircut can also be an award and a place for siblings. Taming Tangles has a television at every station and fun chairs such as a train and an airplane. Add-ons include a princess or superhero package. Taming Tangles also offers ear piercing, Orbeez manicures or pedicures, and hair tinsel and feathers. To reduce wait time for squirming little ones, Taming Tangles is appointment only but there are usually same day appointments available. Call (530)897-0123 for an appointment or book online. tamingtangles.com,
1360 Longfellow Ave., Chico.
Main Street Kidz, Cottonwood
Amber Lacey is a kindergarten aide and a mom to two growing kids. She knows from experience that, “Kids grow but clothes don’t” and kids grow fast! Instead of creating more clothing and toy waste, Amber loves to help you resell your children’s gently used clothing and toys at her store, Main Street Kidz. She has a wide variety of kids clothing from infant to size 14. There is also clothing for women from teen sizes to adult. Check for toys there and save money. To sell clothing outright to Amber or to offer on consignment call (530)870-7236 for an appointment. Find Main Street Kidz inside the Mercantile at 20633 Gas Point Road, Suite C, Cottonwood.
Chico Children’s Faire
Valley Oak Children’s Services in Chico is busy prepping for the annual Week of the Young Child event in the downtown city plaza on April 1. This free, special, annual event includes hands-on activities from area preschools and businesses who care about kids. This is time to enjoy your community’s effort in hosting play and creative time for you and your young child. Remember to let your children dress casual and have some messy fun together! Enjoy live performances and local resources from 10am- 2pm. Stop by the North State Parent magazine booth to make a cardboard fish project with your child.
Kate and her family are “adventure-schoolers” more than homeschoolers. Back home in Red Bluff, while recouping from their travels, Kate writes historical fiction—her first novel is set in rural Northern California. Contact Kate at kate@northstateparent.com.
