Parental divorce or separation can be the most heartbreaking and difficult time a family may face. The conflict family separation may bring often takes a toll on children’s behavior, education, development, sense-of self and even their mental health.
The good news is that there is help, with Kids’ Turn programs designed specifically to help children through the divorce or separation. Kids’ Turn exists to relieve the distress that dividing homes can bring and has been helping families in the North State for more than 25 years.
Free workshop helping parents and children through divorce at the same time
Kids’ Turn is a whole-family educational program serving both parents and children at the same time for six nights in separate groups and the workshop is free for everyone.
The workshop focuses on family communication and strengthening parent-child bonds so children can maintain healthy relationships with both parents throughout the family change. The strength of the family workshop is that each family member receives the intervention at the same time, allowing them to try new relationship tools and communication techniques with the support of all their family members.
Children learn it is not their fault
Parents come to understand what children need in order to adjust and live contentedly between two homes. They learn the importance of keeping children out of the conflict and reminding them they are loved by both parents. The children are empowered by understanding that divorce is a parental issue, and it is not their fault. They communicate their worries, fears, anger or frustration to one or both of their parents after learning methods to deescalate the conflict and to help them be truly heard.
Children also have the opportunity to share freely in a group with other children that are struggling with similar family issues. Through their bonding they support and truly do help each other.
