Dads in Business

Dads in the North State are finding creative ways to combine their individual roles as fathers, husbands and entrepreneurs. In our special Dads in Business section, we asked dads how they balance those roles, what inspired them to start their businesses, and what notable advise they’ve received or have gleaned from their experiences.

In business since 2001.

Fifteen years ago we decided to plant a big garden and sell the excess produce on the side of the road. That idea has turned into 7 acres of garden, 8 acres of peaches, 10 farmers markets per week, and jobs for not only our kids but numerous local teenagers. Being a parent and running a business is a juggling act for sure. My three girls help in the stand and understand that the day doesn’t start at 8am, rather it’s 6am, and doesn’t end at 6pm, rather it’s 8pm. There is always something that needs to be done. One of the things we’re most proud of is offering opportunity for teens to work. Not many businesses will take that chance but last year we employed 23 teenagers. They all learn “how to work.” We teach them skills they’ll be able to use no matter what career they choose.

Get ready to meet the luckiest guy in the world.
I am Jack Stockton and have run the Hollywood Studios Media Center for Acting and Modeling for over 13 years in Chico, CA. I also am the host and producer of an entertainment talk show, That Jack.

What really makes me lucky is my daughter Emily Rose. My greatest accomplishment is being her Dad. From pig tales and horses to cars and hosting her own Hollywood events, I could not be more proud. Emily is the prime example of what a confident and powerful young lady looks and acts like.

HSMC is here for all our community kids in hopes they can make their parents as proud of their children as I am of mine. I love you Emily Rose.

In business since 2000.

Being a father of two energetic boys and running a business is certainly a balancing act, but ultimately my family comes first. Despite daily challenges at work, it is vitally important I take time each day to spend with my wife and sons.

The best advice I can suggest, especially to a young adult, is to be persistent in all your endeavors. I have found over the years that any worthwhile goal I set for myself was achieved because I stuck with it and didn’t give up.

As a pediatric dentist, I try my utmost to help alleviate any fears or concerns a child may have about visiting the dentist. It’s my continuing goal to help children develop a positive, life-long attitude about taking care of their health.
