Independence Day Happenings in the North State

The North State Parent calendar editor is off for the month of July, but here are a few North State happenings on or around the 4th of July. We sincerely hope you and your family enjoys a safe, wonderful and joyful holiday! Check back here in August for our usual display of North State events, classes, activities and more.

July 2nd-4th:

Mt. Shasta: 4th of July Festival & Street Fair. Bring the whole family to enjoy three days of festivities in downtown Mt. Shasta. Fun Run/walk and parade on the Fourth of July, vendors, nightly live music. Kid-friendly run/walk reg starts 7am (infant strollers & wagons, etc. are welcome); parade at noon. 10-7 pm. Free. July 4th:

Chico: Chico Running Club 5k July 4th Run. Meet at Bidwell Park’s One Mile Recreation area (south side of pool) for an early morning run on the 4th of July! After the race enjoy a pancake breakfast with other participants. Registration $25. 6-9:30am. Vallombrosa at Arbutus. Register online at: http://www.chicorunningclub.webconnex.com/July4.2017.

Los Molinos: 50th annual Independence Day 4th of July Parade & Play Day at the Park. Begins 10am on State Route 99E (a portion is closed for the parade). The annual “Los Molinos Play Day at the Park” follows the parade with fun family events at Mill Creek Park. Includes a 1960 International model 460 tractor raffle. (530) 384-2251.

Mt. Shasta: Fireworks. Part of a 4-day event (see 1st listing above), enjoy 4th of July fireworks over Lake Siskiyou. Includes a special finale! Starts approximately 9:45pm. Free. Find more info at mtshastafireworks.com.

Orland: Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration. At this 41st annual event, follow a parade through town leading to Vinsonhaler Park for festivities. Includes food booths, antique cars & trucks, presentations, music with the Orland Town Band, & all kinds of games, including a foot race, decorated bike contest & egg toss. 11am. (530) 870-1559.

Oroville: 4th of July Community Celebration. Free firework viewing from the Thermalito North Forebay & the Nelson Sports Complex. Bring a lawn chair, blanket & picnic snacks to enjoy this Independence Day celebration. 6-10pm. Free. Thermalito North Forebay.

Red Bluff: 4th of July Fireworks Show. Enjoy a glorious display of fireworks at River Park. Free. 555 Washington St.

Redding: Signarama Firecracker 5K Run/Walk. Kick off 4th of July with this festive, patriotic event. The fun starts 8am with a Red, White & Blue opening ceremony. The race begins with a ¼ mile Little Sparkler’s run/walk ($8) followed by a 5k run/walk ($20). Afterwards, enjoy a pancake breakfast & music. 7am-1pm. Yreka: “Firecracker Challenge” Car Racing & Fireworks. Divisions include pro & mini stocks, IMCA modifieds & sport mods, & dwarf cars. A fireworks spectacular follows. Gates open 2pm, racing starts 4pm. $5-$12 (ages 5 & under free). Find more info at siskiyoumotorspeedway.com. (530) 842-2767.

July 5th:

Chico: “Fork in the Road, July!”. Join over a dozen of Chico’s finest food trucks at this much-loved annual event, with live music by Smokey the Groove, & a playground for the kids. There’s plenty of shade & a free bike valet. Enjoy great food; adult beverages available. 5:30-8:30pm. Free entrance. 1705 Manzanita Ave.

Kid’s Summer Movie Club; Redding. Free & fun for all ages, the Cascade Theatre presents a series of the best children’s films, paired with games, prizes, costumed characters & the chance to win tickets to other Cascade family events. 2pm.
