2. Fire and Ice
Visiting Lava Beds National Park is like exploring a world shaped by fire and ice, where visitors can experience the raw power of volcanic landscapes. One of the most exciting aspects of the park is the chance to go underground into a series of fascinating lava tube caves. These tunnels, formed by flowing lava thousands of years ago, offer an incredible opportunity to wander through dark, cool chambers with smooth, blackened walls and striking rock formations. Some caves are easily accessible, while others require a bit more effort to explore, but each one provides a unique perspective on the park’s volcanic history. Above ground, you can hike through rugged lava fields, observe diverse wildlife, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding wilderness, but it’s the subterranean adventure that truly makes Lava Beds a memorable destination.
