Shasta County Offers Many Great Resources For Families
Shasta County offers many great resources for families, whether you are looking for family-friendly fun or a little extra support for your child. Starting at birth, your child will begin to reach milestones in how they play, learn, act, and communicate. Help Me Grow Shasta offers developmental screenings for families that measure age- appropriate milestones. These screenings can help you identify if your child needs more support in certain areas of growth. Help Me Grow Shasta can also connect you to resources in the community that can help meet the basic needs of your family. You can call the 2-1-1 hotline and share your questions or concerns with a Care Coordinator. They will assist with developmental screening and/or connect you to resources that your family might need in order to thrive.
Other services in the community include Far Northern Regional Center and the Shasta County Office of Education. Far Northern Regional Center provides early intervention as well as a wide range of services for eligible children and families. Your child can be referred for services through an early learning program or families can reach out directly to Far Northern Regional Center. Shasta County Office of Education’s Resource and Referral program can assist you in finding childcare, preschool and Transitional Kindergarten options. Shasta County Office of Education offers many services for children and families including nutrition services, subsidized preschool and inclusive education opportunities.
Parenting can be challenging, and one approach does not fit all. Everyone needs a little extra support sometimes! Check out Shasta County’s Parent Cafés to talk with other parents in a small group setting about parenting issues. Topics can range from managing stress to communication, to general parenting support. Bridges to School Success also offers online, free parenting support. This program is offered through Shasta County Office of Education. Pathways to Hope for Children facilitates Parent Cafés for parents, and you can find out about them by visiting hopeshasta.org.
If you are looking for some family friendly activities check out Roam Play Space, the YMCA, Redding Recreation, and the Redding Library. Roam Play Space offers fun, safe and developmentally appropriate toys and activities for children. The YMCA has several activities and programs for children and families including childcare, swimming, camps and other exercise programs. They provide financial assistance for those that qualify. The Redding Library has online story time and virtual programs for children to earn free books. Check out Redding Recreation for sports programs and Parks in Redding for your family to enjoy.
