Summer is finally here, and so are summer camps, with lots of fun in the fresh air outdoors, plus creative games and learning opportunities! Many classes and camps have limited availability, so be sure to check before planning.
Can’t find a camp your child loves within your county? Not to worry! COVID-19 has changed many things, and not all for the bad; you can now access camps via Zoom, from wherever you live! Camps listed with an * symbol indicate virtual options.

(Day Camps) If your children love to be outside and are passionate about nature, this is the camp for them! They will learn naturalist skills, survival skills, and crafts that will deepen their love for our precious environment. All games and activities are hands-on, and all crafts are earth based. Your kids will come home excited, happy...and probably dirty! The Wind in the Willows Camp
Ages: 1st-3rd grade

Calm and inviting summer mornings will include imaginative yoga, poetry recitation, music, painting and snack Children will listen to Kenneth Graham's novel The Wind in the Willows, narrated by Michael Hordern, and learn how to layer beeswax block crayons to illustrate scenes and elements in nature.
The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate Camp
Ages: 4th-6th grade
Dates: M-F July 13-17, 9am-2pm
Cost: $275
As Calpurnia explores her natural world in Jacqueline Kelly's The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, narrated by Natalie Ross, children will learn how to create a naturalist's journal with botany and animal drawings and quotes from the text. Camp includes detailed watercolor and acrylic landscape painting lessons and clay modeling of various living organisms.
(Day Camps) After teaching public school for most of the year, Jennifer Adams devotes summers to teaching art to contemplative youth. These weeklong summer camps, tailored to specific age groups, bring class novels to life through all the senses, using audio books, music, yoga, nature exploration, painting, clay modeling, poetry and more. The final camp includes music theory, practice and performance. Space is limited to 10 students per class to ensure social distancing. Email jennifer@contemplativeyouth.com with questions.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Camp
Ages: 7th-12th+ grade
Cost: $275
Dates: M-F July 20-24, 9am-2pm
As Kate Burton narrates Betty Smith’s novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, youth will engage in contextual poetry, philosophy and art history from New York City’s Progressive Era and Jazz Age. Students will learn Art Deco geometric drawing, Art Nouveau botanical drawing, cityscape painting, and historic font penmanship.
Recorder Ensemble Camp
Ages: 4th-12th+
Dates: M-F July 27-31
Cost: $220
Soprano, alto, tenor and bass recorder players will learn a broad range of baroque, renaissance, and contemporary sheet music. Lessons include poetry, music theory, practice, and performance. Reading sheet music is not required for Soprano students who prefer to follow their teacher. Soprano students are likely to accomplish music literacy by the end of the week. Instruments are not provided.
