Is your child learning to read, but is insecure about their level and needs more or different practice in front of a completely non-judgmental listener?  If so, this could be what gives him or her a breakthrough!

Come read to a dog at the Redding Library and discover how a furry friend can make reading even more fun! The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program helps children build confidence in their reading and communication skills by providing a calm, nonjudgmental audience—a specially trained therapy dog. Prescription Pets Therapy Dogs desires to bring the healing power of pets to your new reader!

These aren’t just any dogs—they’re certified therapy animals from Prescription Pets who visit the library with their volunteer owner/handlers. Together, they create a safe, supportive space where kids can relax, read aloud, and enjoy the company of a gentle, four-legged reading buddy.

These sessions are geared towards beginning readers, however they are open to any child.  Children will be able to work on both reading and communication skills.
