Learn the basics of sewing to bring your imagination to life!

This class serves as an introduction to sewing a strong project. The curriculum is structured to facilitate progression from machine introduction and beginner competency to sewing with confidence.

Beginning projects include: drawstring bag, circle pillow, pillow case

Intermediate and independent projects: Once a student has acquired the necessary skills and confidence to work semi-independently, the instructor will work in cooperation with each student to create projects tailored to their interest and increasing ability.

Skills taught: Threading and operating a sewing machine safely and independently, understanding sewing terms, how to follow instructions and create a project, how to identify and correctly use tools, measuring, marking, and cutting increasing varieties of fabrics, how to progress from straight line-only sewing to navigating curves, turning corners, and building dimensional projects from flat patterns, how to identify problems and find solutions, and how to deconstruct and recreate projects.

Discover our commitment to sustainable creation with our curated selection of fabrics, perfect for students eager to explore their creativity. While our designs and fabric types are limited, we prioritize eco-friendly sourcing by utilizing donated materials, dead stock, and project scraps. (We gladly accept donations to cover the cost of preparing these fabrics for class use.) Students wishing to bring their own fabrics are welcome to do so. Machines, threads, tools provided. A supply list will be provided as needed.
