Civil War: “Writing for Home – A Chautauqua Soldier’s Messages from War”

  • This event has passed.

March 1 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The popular Tehama County Museum Lecture Series for this year starts on March 1 with the presentation by Rick Barram, a longtime student of history, authority on the U.S. Civil War, lecturer, writer and reenactor.

Barram will speak on various aspects of the U.S. Civil War – largely from the first person accounts of Arthur McKinstry, a soldier in the Excelsior Brigade of New York.

The lecture will be held in the Marty Grafell Annex of the Tehama County Museum, 275 C St., in the City of Tehama.

Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated. Docent interpreters will be in the main building beginning at 12 p.m.

Barram lives in northern California and is a recently retired social studies and theater arts teacher from the Gateway Unified School District. A long-time student of history, Barram also enjoys Civil War reenacting, which provided much of the background experience for his history of the 72nd New York. He also serves on the board of two Civil War related non-profit organizations and is a frequent contributor to “America’s Civil War” magazine.

He is the author of several books and editor of the letters of Arthur McKinstrys in the book titled Dear Uncles – a Civil War regimental history and soldier’s letter collection. He has also written several Civil War related articles appearing in national or regional publications.
