SUMMARY:Thomas D. Mangelsen: A Life in the Wild
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Bay Museum proudly presents Thomas D. Mangelsen: A Life In The Wild\, a breathtaking exhibition featuring 40 of the renowned photographer’s most resonant images\, on display from January 24 through May 3\, 2026. \nSpanning all seven continents\, the exhibition immerses visitors in stunning natural landscapes and the intimate lives of animal species from some of the Earth’s last great wild places. Created over decades\, the work reflects deep knowledge of animal behavior and the patience to wait for nature’s most powerful moments. \nAmong the photographs many visitors will recognize are Polar Dance (1989)\, showing polar bears appearing to dance across the Arctic ice; Mountain Outlaw (2014)\, a dramatic head-on charge of a grizzly bear through snow; and Catch of the Day (1988)\, which captures the precise instant a salmon leaps into the open jaws of a brown bear along Alaska’s Brooks River. Notably one of the most widely circulated wildlife photographs in history\, Catch of the Day was created before digital cameras and without manipulation. The exhibition showcases a breadth of subjects including mammals\, birds\, flowers\, and iconic landscapes from Alaska’s Denali Range to the African savanna. \nThese remarkable works by Thomas D. Mangelsen reflect more than 50 years of dedication as an artist and conservationist. His work has earned many top honors\, including Conservation Photographer of the Year\, placement in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History\, and recognition as one of the most influential and important photographers of his time. \nThe exhibition is free for members and included with admission. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday for winter hours.

In this hands-on session\, middle to high school students will dive into the process of creating and recording sound effects for film\, video\, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. Working in groups of 2–3\, students will collaborate to produce foley audio for a pre-created short film. Throughout the workshop\, participants will learn foundational sound design concepts\, microphone handling\, and audio capturing and editing techniques guided by experienced filmmakers\, teachers\, and student mentors. Using a variety of microphones and recording devices\, students will record and edit sounds in sync with on-screen action. Everything from footsteps and clothing rustle\, to environmental ambience. By the end of the workshop\, each team will have created and integrated at least 25–30 unique Foley sound effects into a completed short film\, gaining hands-on experience in the art and science of sound for storytelling. \nRegister today!

SUMMARY:Behind the Mask: Musical
DESCRIPTION:Be a part of a world premiere for this new musical\, written and composed by local Redding talent. Set in the hauntingly beautiful Bayou\, “Behind The Mask” tells a captivating tale of mystery\, jealousy\, love\, and resilience. Yvonne Sonnier\, driven by jealousy\, turns to a bayou witch doctor to switch bodies with her sister\, leading to chaos and unexpected lessons. This dark fairy tale\, filled with bayou magic and colorful characters\, invites us to look beyond appearances in an unforgettable journey. \nAbout the creators:\nLisa Collins has spent decades doing the work: acting\, directing\, writing\, and producing across the Bay Area and Northern California. She and her husband and co-writer Bill Collins spent years building Keyhole Mystery Theatre\, writing and performing original musical comedy and interactive murder mysteries throughout Northern California. \nBehind the Mask is their most ambitious project yet: a full-length musical they developed together\, with original compositions by Bill Reuss. It is\, in every sense\, a labor of love brought to life by people who live and create in this community.

This will be a great time for the kids to come out have some safe fun collecting eggs. Gates open at 5:30pm.\n\nOur event will start before the Peter Rabbit’s egg hunt. This is to help those that are sensitive to noises and crowds. Our hunt will be inside and have glowing and non-glowing eggs.
