SUMMARY:Art Classes for Children - Summer Schedule
DESCRIPTION:*Summer classes are offered once a week\, either Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Sign up any time!  Class size is limited\, allowing individual attention. \nStudents will learn the basics of drawing and painting with an emphasis on fun. The first two weeks of a given month are focused on drawing and the later weeks on painting. Students work with various mediums\, including charcoal\, watercolor\, tempera\, colored pencils and watercolor pencils. More advanced students can work in acrylics\, pastel\, oil and collage mediums. Form\, perspective\, shading\, cartooning\, and painting methods are discussed as part of instruction. Biographies and works of master artists are also discussed during classes. \nSupplies are included for beginner and intermediate levels. There is a one-time $25 registration fee for new students. In this hands-on workshop\, participants will learn how to create beautiful coiled baskets using longleaf pine needles and raffia\, blending natural materials with age-old techniques. \nWe’ll begin by learning how to prepare and handle pine needles\, then move on to coiling and stitching techniques that form the structure of the basket. To add a personal\, earthy touch\, campers will use natural dyes made from plants and teas to color their raffia—learning about the dyeing process along the way. \nThis is a calming\, creative experience that connects campers to nature and craft heritage. Children under 10 are welcome with a participating adult\, making it a wonderful opportunity for parent-child collaboration and bonding. Come away with your own handcrafted basket and a new appreciation for slow\, beautiful work.
