Although extinct in the state\, the grizzly is a central character in California’s history. “Bear In Mind” is an exhibition that tells the compelling story of one of California’s most beloved and feared animals. Exhibit themes include: The Loss of Grizzlies\, The Truth about\nGrizzlies\, and Bears in our Imagination. \nBear In Mind includes a section created especially for children with a simulated bear den\, colorful books and puppets\, and special text panels to help children understand the story of the California Grizzly and American Black Bear. Interactives include a map showing a timeline of the grizzlies’ demise; an activity comparing and contrasting grizzly size\, scat\, and paws; a bear image sorting game; and an animal track activity.

DESCRIPTION:*Summer classes are offered once a week\, either Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Sign up any time!  Class size is limited\, allowing individual attention. \nStudents will learn the basics of drawing and painting with an emphasis on fun. The first two weeks of a given month are focused on drawing and the later weeks on painting. Students work with various mediums\, including charcoal\, watercolor\, tempera\, colored pencils and watercolor pencils. More advanced students can work in acrylics\, pastel\, oil and collage mediums. Form\, perspective\, shading\, cartooning\, and painting methods are discussed as part of instruction. Biographies and works of master artists are also discussed during classes. \nSupplies are included for beginner and intermediate levels. There is a one-time $25 registration fee for new students. DESCRIPTION:We will teach you all the basics on being a professional commercial whitewater raft guide. \nThis class will include outdoor classroom and lots of hands-on practice on the river\, as well some ropes instruction on land. \nAt the end you will have to basic knowledge to apply for a job as a whitewater raft guide\, and or take your friends and family out safely on the river. \nTraining will include but isn’t limited to how to: \n\nPreparing and Rigging a Raft for a day on the water\nSteering a raft with a paddle\, also known affectionately as ‘stick guiding’\nUsing your crew to maneuver through rapids\nLearning about obstacles in the river\, and how to avoid them\nWhat are ‘Holes’ in the river\, and how to expertly maneuver through them\n‘Reading the river’ – How to understand Flow\, Currents\, CFS\, Eddies\, and more!\n‘Lines’ for rapids\, and instruction on the many ways to run a rapid\nUnderstanding\, Catching and Using ‘Eddies’\nHow to get off rocks if you become stuck in a rapid- Oh so important!\nSwimming rapids\, and the most effective and safe ways to do so.\nFlipping over an Overturned Raft\nHand Signals for effective communication on the river\nMaking lunches…. river style!\nHow to use a Rescue Bag\, also known as a ‘Throw Bag’\nSafety and Paddle Talks for customers.\n\n…And more! \nThis noncompetitive 5-day class will be done mostly on the class III+ Pigeon Point section of the Trinity River and may include a day on some harder\, class IV whitewater (flow dependent). Free camping and parking onsite at Six Rivers Rafting in Junction City is included as is lunch each day. All rafting gear is provided at no extra charge. DESCRIPTION:Bear In Mind: The Story of the California Grizzly uses striking images\, informative text\, memorabilia\, a variety of historical and scientific objects\, and hands-on activities to engage visitors of all ages. \nOver the centuries\, the relationship that Californians have had with the bear is one of dualities – expressed in fear and fascination. Although extinct in the state\, the grizzly is a central character in California’s history. “Bear In Mind” is an exhibition that tells the compelling story of one of California’s most beloved and feared animals. Exhibit themes include: The Loss of Grizzlies\, The Truth about\nGrizzlies\, and Bears in our Imagination. \nBear In Mind includes a section created especially for children with a simulated bear den\, colorful books and puppets\, and special text panels to help children understand the story of the California Grizzly and American Black Bear. Interactives include a map showing a timeline of the grizzlies’ demise; an activity comparing and contrasting grizzly size\, scat\, and paws; a bear image sorting game; and an animal track activity.
