Although extinct in the state\, the grizzly is a central character in California’s history. “Bear In Mind” is an exhibition that tells the compelling story of one of California’s most beloved and feared animals. Exhibit themes include: The Loss of Grizzlies\, The Truth about\nGrizzlies\, and Bears in our Imagination. \nBear In Mind includes a section created especially for children with a simulated bear den\, colorful books and puppets\, and special text panels to help children understand the story of the California Grizzly and American Black Bear. Interactives include a map showing a timeline of the grizzlies’ demise; an activity comparing and contrasting grizzly size\, scat\, and paws; a bear image sorting game; and an animal track activity.

The interior of the Glenwood Farmhouse is furnished with Hester Patrick’s furniture\, antiques and artifacts. The Museum continues to evolve as we bring more of Hester Patrick’s collection to public view and receive additional exhibits and artifacts. \nThe Patrick Ranch Museum was bequeathed to the Far West Heritage Association by the last ranch owner\, Hester Grimm Patrick\, and her husband William Garrison Patrick. They championed the promotion\, documentation\, preservation\, and appreciation of its history. \nPatrick Ranch Museum opened to the public in 2010 and now offers a variety of volunteer and educational programs.

From toddlers to teens\, all ages are welcome to dig their fingers in the soil. \nAt From The Ground Up Farms\, we started a nutrition education and garden program for Butte County Home Schoolers and toddlers in order to provide a safe space to teach our children about nutrition and growing food. There is a new garden related project every week. The parents run this program and From the Ground Up offers the garden space and supplies. This family-friendly event features a wide variety of local vendors and organizations\, including Vine & Branch Shop\, Z Soap Company\, The Worm Farm\, Happy Tails Bakery\, C & A Sweets from Heaven\, and the VFW. \nLearn from the Biochar Coalition\, explore seeds with the Paradise Seed Library\, and connect with groups like Roots and Wings\, the Butte County Local Food Network\, and the Butte County Fire Safe Council. Kids (and kids at heart) will enjoy seeing a fire truck from the Paradise Fire Department and meeting members of the Paradise Police Department. Be sure to support the students from Paradise FFA\, and visit booths hosted by Paradise Friends of the Library\, HSLDA\, Deja Vu Gardens\, Jenny’s Pet Supply\, Gray Family Goods\, and many more. Come out and celebrate the spirit of homesteading and community resilience!
