SUMMARY:Songs of the Soul - A Dance Performance
DESCRIPTION:Commūne Dance Company Presents Songs of the Soul – A Dance Performance \nJoin us on April 18 & 19 at the Shasta College Theater in Redding for Songs of the Soul\, a powerful and visually compelling dance production presented by Commūne Dance Company. \nThe first half features Winds of Change\, a choreographic work by director Lisa Broere\, premiered at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Fall 2025 and presented in Redding for the first time. This piece reflects seasons of transition—when paths shift\, and we are invited into resilience\, growth\, and restored strength. \nThe second half\, Songs of the Soul\, is a vibrant collection of new works shaped by lived experiences – personal stories of thankfulness for what has been overcome\, together forming a moving tapestry of human expression. Be surprised by a dynamic range of styles\, including tap and jazz\, as you experience the energy\, musicality\, and heart of movement. \nWith a cast of 22 dancers\, stunning theatrical design\, and powerful storytelling\, this is Commūne’s largest production of the year—an artistic and engaging dance experience for audiences of all backgrounds. Don’t miss this special annual production in Redding.

SUMMARY:Godly Play at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Redding
DESCRIPTION:If you have children\, you already know that play is essential for their learning and development. That’s why Godly Play is the cornerstone of All Saints’ spiritual formation program for children ages 4 to 10. We offer Godly Play on the first\, second\, and third Sundays of each month at 10 am\, just prior to the 10:30 am worship service. \nOn Godly Play Sundays\, children are invited to gather on the rug in the front of the church for a greeting and a story. Once the worship service has commenced\, the children may leave\, join their caregivers in the pews\, or stay with the storyteller and door person (the co-teacher) for the duration of the service; art materials and Godly Play stories will be provided for the children to work with so they can respond to the story they’ve heard\, create a new one\, or express what is on their hearts as they participate in the liturgy. The practice of Godly Play is informed by the understanding that children already have an innate understanding of God\, and that accessing the language\, signs\, and symbols of the Christian tradition can help them speak about their unique experiences with God. \nIf you’d like to learn more about this unique approach to Christian formation\, please call Alexandra Stephens at (530) 945-8892 or email her at luddites@sbcglobal.net. We hope to see you soon!

SUMMARY:Thomas D. Mangelsen: A Life in the Wild
DESCRIPTION:Turtle Bay Museum proudly presents Thomas D. Mangelsen: A Life In The Wild\, a breathtaking exhibition featuring 40 of the renowned photographer’s most resonant images\, on display from January 24 through May 3\, 2026. \nSpanning all seven continents\, the exhibition immerses visitors in stunning natural landscapes and the intimate lives of animal species from some of the Earth’s last great wild places. Created over decades\, the work reflects deep knowledge of animal behavior and the patience to wait for nature’s most powerful moments. \nAmong the photographs many visitors will recognize are Polar Dance (1989)\, showing polar bears appearing to dance across the Arctic ice; Mountain Outlaw (2014)\, a dramatic head-on charge of a grizzly bear through snow; and Catch of the Day (1988)\, which captures the precise instant a salmon leaps into the open jaws of a brown bear along Alaska’s Brooks River. Notably one of the most widely circulated wildlife photographs in history\, Catch of the Day was created before digital cameras and without manipulation. The exhibition showcases a breadth of subjects including mammals\, birds\, flowers\, and iconic landscapes from Alaska’s Denali Range to the African savanna. \nThese remarkable works by Thomas D. Mangelsen reflect more than 50 years of dedication as an artist and conservationist. His work has earned many top honors\, including Conservation Photographer of the Year\, placement in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History\, and recognition as one of the most influential and important photographers of his time. \nThe exhibition is free for members and included with admission. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday for winter hours.
