DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with critically acclaimed author\, Pulitzer Prize finalist for nonfiction\, and Guggenheim Fellow Luis Alberto Urrea on Friday\, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 400 at the Shasta College Main Campus in Redding. \nUrrea will discuss his newest novel\, Good Night\, Irene\, inspired by his mother’s service with the Red Cross. The book offers a powerful and uplifting story of friendship and courage in the midst of war. \nUrrea is an award-winning author known for works including The Devil’s Highway\, a Pulitzer Prize finalist\, and The Hummingbird’s Daughter\, a Kiriyama Prize–winning novel. His short story collection The Water Museum was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and named a best book of the year by major publications. \nIn addition to his writing career\, Urrea has worked as a relief worker in Tijuana and has taught writing at Harvard University and other institutions. He currently serves as a distinguished professor of creative writing at the University of Illinois Chicago. \nDon’t miss this inspiring evening with one of today’s most celebrated storytellers.
