Whether you recall the tale from the Walt Disney classic or live-action films like Hook and Pan, you’ve likely been enchanted by the timeless story of the boy who never grows up. This month Shasta County Children’s Chorus will transport you back to the magical world of Neverland with their musical theater production of Peter Pan Jr.

Led by a talented cast of over 80 students ages 5 to 14, this enchanting performance follows Wendy and her brothers on a fantastic quest as they fly away and explore the island of Neverland with Peter Pan and his feisty sidekick Tinkerbell, later encountering the beloved Lost Boys and infamous Captain Hook.

With high-flying battles, swashbuckling pirates and toe-tapping songs, this show allows parents to introduce their children to a cherished tale and to enjoy new elements added along the way.

Produced by Nancy Dutton and Amy Hughes, “The show is a classic that every child can identify with,” says Dutton. “We all want to stay young, not do chores, and have fun playing all the time … who wouldn’t?”

The cast features students from 22 local schools: Cottonwood Creek Charter School, West Cottonwood Junior High School, New Day Academy, Redding School of the Arts, Stellar Charter School, North Cottonwood School, Meadow Lane Elementary School, University Preparatory School (U-Prep), Happy Valley Elementary School, Jackson Heights Elementary School, Shasta Lake School, Prairie Elementary School, Junction Elementary School, Evergreen Elementary School, Anderson Heights Elementary School, Happy Valley Primary School, Pacheco Elementary School, Anderson Middle School, Mistletoe Elementary School, Manzanita Elementary School, Redding Christian School, and Chrysalis Charter School.

Shasta County Children’s Chorus is one of three programs within the local non-profit group South Shasta County Youth Arts (SSCYA). The chorus group is run by volunteers, mainly parents, who are passionate about music, dance and theatre.

Performances of Shasta County Children’s Chorus’ Peter Pan Jr. take place March 17 – 19 at Anderson Union High School’s Performing Arts Center in Anderson. For ticket information and information about how to get involved in Shasta County Children’s Chorus, visit sscya.org.
