Tehama County Museum

Launching its first website

Tucked away in the Northern California Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains and an abundant agricultural community, the Tehama County Museum has traditionally done its work of presenting the past through displays, exhibits, tours and special events. With COVID-19 restrictions in place, however, all these tools quickly needed to go online. This little museum never had a website but, with a grant from the Union Pacific Foundation, volunteers and staff are hard at work creating a new website and a library of videos, all of which should be available before the end of 2020.

To learn more about the new website and find out when it launches, follow the Tehama County Museum on Facebook.

Tehama County Genealogical and Historical Society

Document your personal experience

The Tehama County Genealogical and Historical Society works hard to preserve and share Tehama County’s rich history. Several Society members serve as volunteers at the Red Bluff branch of the Tehama County Library. They prepare research databases, catalog photographs and documents, help with genealogical and historical research projects and answer inquiries from the public. The Society also finds and reprints books about local history that are long out of print but still significant. Most of these books are available for purchase on the Society’s website.

Making sure that today’s events are preserved for future historians, the Society has just invited residents to document personal experiences of living during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Siskiyou County Historical Society

Play “Monument” and win!

Follow the Siskiyou County Historical Society on Facebook to start playing the all-ages “Monument” game in September. There will be a card similar to a Bingo card that can be downloaded. Each square on the card will have the name of a historical monument or plaque in Siskiyou County. To play, find that monument or plaque and take a selfie with both you and the monument in the photo, then message the Society and attach the photograph. The first person who has a row across, vertical or diagonal and has submitted pictures of all five monuments or plaques will win. And everyone who completes five in a row will be mentioned online. Winners announced on Facebook.

Contribute to the Siskiyou Veterans Project

Currently, the Siskiyou Veterans Project of the Siskiyou County Historical Society is seeking information about all who have served the country and hailed from or lived in Siskiyou County. They are interested in any documents, photos, letters, remembrances or any printed materials that a family might have that can provide information on their family member as they served.
