North State Mamapreneurs 2025

North State Mamaprenuers 2025

Each year, North State Parent celebrates the entrepreneurial women of the North State who have integrated their own business or side hustle into the challenging and rewarding job of motherhood. These women are our “Mamapreneurs.” They are showing by example what it means to weave together the twin threads of family life and business life.

Women-owned businesses are shaking up the business world, demonstrating a revolutionary and remarkably successful paradigm for running a business. More importantly, women-owned businesses are giving a tremendous boost to the economy, here in the North State and throughout the US.

With everything they do, Mamaprenuers are modeling responsibility, integrity, resilience and a can-do spirit that encourages the next generation to express their interests and do what they love. They’re showing their children that they can be the leaders in their own lives and that’s good business!

North State Parent loves supporting entrepreneurial women! Do you have a Mamapreneuer in your life you would like to be featured next October? Call North State Parent at (530) 926-1287 or email pn@northstateparent.com to nominate yourself or someone you know as a Mamapreneur for 2026!

Mandie Burson – Kinetics Academy of Dance & Gymnastics

In business since 2001

As a former athlete heavily involved in gymnastics, cheer, dance and track, I was inspired to start my business because of the core values athletic programs instill. Students gain so much more than skills — they develop lifelong healthy habits, discipline and confidence, while also experiencing opportunities that broaden their horizons and future paths.

Being a parent and running a business shows my kids firsthand the hard work and dedication it takes, but also that it’s worth it if you love what you do. I tell them to follow their heart, but also remind them that it comes with challenges. You must push through the ups and downs, stay true to your values and be willing to pivot as life changes.

Delphine Jespersen – 530 & Company

In Business Since 2015

When I first started my business, I was a wedding planner. I noticed there was a lack of social media posts after I’d coordinate a wedding. So I reached out to wedding industry professionals and asked if they needed my assistance with posting. One thing led to another and now I work with people in so many different industries. I couldn’t be more thankful for that!

I take it day by day. Every day is different and if you wake up with the mentality that everything will work out, it’s going to be a good day.

Now that my daughter is older, I have time to focus on my work when she is in school and then I can focus on her when she’s home! Although laundry, dishes, etc. pile up too. It’s all about balance

I LOVE my flexibility and the creativity behind my work. Combining parenting and running a business is fun, especially with my 5-year-old. She loves getting content with me. Now that we have a new baby on the way, I cannot wait to see what is in store for my business in the coming years.

Kelly Schill – Marigold Marketplace

In business since 2023

I was inspired to start Marigold Marketplace because Durham desperately needed a store to provide fresh foods and local goodies. Highlighting the bountiful resources that our region has in its backyard was essential in starting the business! What keeps me going through the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur is when a customer simply says, “Thank you for being here”. I know I’ve made a valuable contribution to our community.

Juggling parenthood and running a business is challenging, but being able to hire employees has given me the freedom to adjust the hours that I work to fit in with the schedule of my children and create more balance in my life. For that, I am grateful!

Evonne Schofield – My Little Teepee Sleepovers

In business since 2022

Creating positive childhood memories is the passion and mission behind My Little Teepee Sleepovers. I offer a different option for birthday parties and special occasions here in the North State. Seeing smiles and little faces light up once a setup is complete is what drives me to keep going. I do my best to create the most magical and special set up for each sleepover. Every detail counts.

An idea that turned into a small business rather quickly has been the most rewarding venture thus far in my life. Juggling family and business is overwhelming at times, but with time management, family support and balancing life, I can function at my best and keep booking these magical sleepovers. Serving Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Butte counties.
