Holistic Body Therapy
in business since 1997
I established Holistic Body Therapy over two decades ago with a simple vision: to make natural products accessible and affordable, while prioritizing the well-being of my family. I was frustrated with the fact that natural products often come with a higher price tag compared to synthetic alternatives. This motivated me to delve into the world of creating my own high-quality natural products that are both effective and cost-efficient. Discovering the ability to make these products myself was truly empowering and inspired me to start my business with passion and purpose.
Pregnancy heightened my sensitivity to synthetic scents, leading me to embrace natural perfumery and custom scent creation. Educating others about the potential dangers of toxic synthetic fragrances, as well as advocating for the use of natural alternatives has become a vital part of my work. It feels fulfilling to share knowledge about the numerous benefits of embracing natural ingredients.
Holistic Body Therapy products blossom with mindful intention as I grow and craft my products in an organic manner. Each batch is carefully processed with love and a sprinkle of magic. With over 400 creations, I offer a diverse range of products, from practical herbal remedies focused on first aid and immune support to luxurious body care and enchanting natural makeup infused with sparkles and whimsy.
Working from home enables me to have a more organic schedule, allowing me to fully engage with my children and in activities that nurture my soul. Tending to a garden teeming with life, knitting intricate creations and immersing myself in the world of painting–these are the pursuits that harmonize with my internal nature. Engaging in these sacred art forms has been an integral part of my healing process and self-discovery as I navigate the journey of motherhood. These creative outlets provide a sanctuary where I can express my deepest emotions, explore my innermost thoughts and find solace in the act of creation. These creative pursuits transcend the challenges of parenthood, allowing me to reconnect with my true essence and discover peace, fulfillment and a revitalized sense of self.
I was inspired to start my business because I’ve always been passionate about social media and growing online platforms! When I first started, I was in the wedding industry as a wedding planner and I noticed that photographers weren’t taking the time to share the beautiful photos they captured!
Balancing motherhood and work when work is busy can be tough, but I am so thankful that I have child care three to four times a week, a supportive husband, and a daughter who understands that when I’m on my phone, it’s for work! I’m so grateful for a flexible schedule. If you need any social media management help, website design work, or re-branding / content creation, I’m here for you.
Many households, by choice or necessity, must function with two working parents. That’s the case for my family. Running a business, managing a home and being a parent can be difficult to handle. I’ve found letting go of guilt goes a long way. Nobody’s perfect all the time, and we need to not sweat the small stuff.
The other thing that helps with a dual-employed household is stepping out of traditional roles. My husband makes lunches and helps with dishes and other chores. Whoever is available gets the job done. I encounter a lot of single dads in my practice who are doing a great job raising kids.
Your kids eventually get to an age where their schedules are as packed as yours! Grandparents can be a great help. I also urge people to utilize extended family for help if available.”
In 2018, I reluctantly went to a Norwex demo, convinced that I wasn’t going to buy anything. But, after I saw how Norwex could pick up 99% of bacteria, and clean windows streak-free with just a cloth and water I was hooked. The company, which began in Norway in 1994, is committed to household and personal care products that radically reduce the use of chemicals.
Norwex hits all my buttons: it provides chemical-free, faster, more effective cleaning, and it saves money. I bought the basic package, booked a demo, and I signed up as a consultant! Since then, I’ve found it has been a joy to help so many families create healthy, chemical-free homes.
As a mom, grandmother, entrepreneur and independent business owner — I also own Book Family Farm — the best advice I’ve ever gotten is to not compare myself and my journey with anyone else. The most important thing that gets me through challenging times is my relationship with a loving God, knowing that he is with me through the good and the hard times.
Cedar Grove Center for Rural Renewal
in business since 2020
I am an artist, educator, and a 3rd generation Dunsmuirian. After many years of experience and education, I moved back home to raise my family and work to help revitalize this special community. I am passionate about Waldorf education and its therapeutic potential for children and families experiencing intergenerational poverty and trauma.
I am the founder of Cedar Grove Center for Rural Renewal, of which Cedar Grove School, a Waldorf-inspired, multicultural heritage school, is a part. Cedar Grove Center will also provide after school classes for youth and evening classes for adults in both fine and practical arts, and will also host community events, festivals, and workshops.
My lifelong passion to bring people together to have a good time, celebrate and connect inspired me to start my own business, North State Events. It’s truly a blessing that we get to experience milestones along with our clients by helping to create and coordinate weddings, birthday parties and special events. We take care of all the details so our clients can “be a guest at your own event.” We were voted #one event planner by the Chico Enterprise-Record for the second year in a row. Along with running my business I am an active mom of three daughters; Tenley, 9; Lainey, 7 and Charlotte, 4. My personal goal is to create a healthy balance and dedication to both my career and family life.
California Dance Company, Inc.
in business since 1996
I was inspired to start California Dance Company by the love and gratitude I had for all my teachers and by dance as a craft. I began the business from scratch in 1996, at first giving free workshops. I wanted to bring to dance students the beauty, power and vision of dance in a fresh and unique way!
Through the years I have learned many valuable lessons. I was advised that there are no shortcuts, only grit, hard work, determination and perseverance, and I have found this to be true. But I have also learned that if you want more, you have to give more. If you want more love, give more love. If you want more money, give more money.
I have learned to balance being a single mom and owning a business by being present in everything I do, whether it’s work or taking care of and making time for my children.
Whenever I encounter challenges at work, I revisit the “why.” Why do I work so hard? Why do I get up in the morning? The answer: my two boys and the community that counts on me every day. What I enjoy most about combining parenting with running a business is that my boys see that hard work pays off and they let me know they are proud of me.
My partner Joe and I decided to take the plunge and purchase Mill Creek Resort because the stars aligned perfectly. We were searching for a property and lifestyle that would allow us to live in the woods far away from the big old city and Mill Creek came into view. We take great pride in and feel the responsibility to honor the rich history of this iconic 1930s resort.
Our mission is to cultivate the kind of connections on which we all thrive. Connections with guests, families, staff, the Mill Creek community, and most importantly the land.
When we took over Mill Creek Resort in 2017, we were advised to learn to delegate, and then do it! With the responsibility of maintaining the resort property, running a business and raising a family, I have learned the value of asking for help and am grateful for so many extra helping hands that have assisted us along the way.
My family is my No. 1 support system when times get tough. Being a mom and an entrepreneur is challenging, but it is also so rewarding. What I love most is showing my kiddos how to be a boss mama!
