Come celebrate the Western way of life at the 32nd Annual Cowboy Poetry Night, presented by the Tehama County Arts Council as a part of this year’s Red Bluff Round-Up events.
Participants of all ages are invited to recite or sing original or traditional and classic poems or songs about cowboys or cowgirls and their work, life on the range, ranch life and livestock.
Featured cowboy poets are Bill Hooton of Red Bluff, Craig Claver of Redding, and musician Dan Steadman of Cottonwood, all of which have performed at numerous Cowboy Poetry events.
Bill Hooton hasn’t missed many of the Red Bluff Poetry events in the past 31 years. He is a retired veterinarian and also considers himself a part-time cowboy.
Craig Claver has been involved in the horse and cattle industry most of his life raising, training and competing on horses and raising and showing Brangus cattle.
Musician Dan Steadman started his cowboy entertaining at an early age performing at overnight trail rides. He went on to attend the Hank Thompson School of Country Music in Claremore, Oklahoma.
The tradition of cowboy poetry originated with early cowboys sitting around the campfire after a hard day’s work telling stories about their day’s experiences, often as poetry and in songs. Cowboy poetry has its own rhyming style and has become a form of popular folk art.
