In Motion Fitness, a high profile local fitness center in Chico, California, is midway through what will ultimately be the largest outdoor mural art project in Chico history.
The larger-than-life murals have a “Mediterranean village” feel and provide a backdrop to the club’s new one-of-a kind Outdoor Fitness Park and Running Track.
Chris Conway, In Motion’s general manager, says the collaborating artists all have very diverse styles. “We have graffiti artists mixed in with traditional artists…and they’ve all gotten along smashingly.”
Owner Carl Sommer has long been an advocate for Chico artisans. Contributing artists include well-known locals Christine MacShane, Chase Lundgren and edgy graffiti artists David Selkirk and Christian Garcia, along with metal artists Doug Rathbun, Jeff Lindsey, Larry Wood and Ken Chase. Highly recognized muralist, Beverly Caputo from Reno, Nevada, is also contributing to the effort.
The murals really are a treat to see. Find out for yourselves! Families are invited to come into the center’s front desk and ask for a tour—the In Motion Fitness crew would love to show you around.
