The Butte Literacy Council Short Story Contest 2016
Butte County kids, teens and adults, it’s time to pick up your pen and paper – or laptop – and get your creative juices flowing! The Butte Literacy Council is accepting entries for their annual Short Story Contest.
You don’t need to possess immortal superpowers, win the lottery (although, wouldn’t that be awesome?) or get attacked by zombies – just make readers believe you have. Anything is possible when plotting a fictional short story.
Entries must be postmarked by Monday, March 14, 2016, and entrants must be Butte County residents. The contest winners (first place and honorable mention) will be given the opportunity to read their stories aloud at an Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chico Public Library. First Place winners in the K–7th grade categories (grades K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-7) receive $25 gift certificates; First Place winners in the 8th grade–adult categories (grades 8-9, 10-12 & adults) receive $75 checks.
The Butte Literacy Council (BLC) was established in 1989 to support local efforts promoting literacy and the enjoyment of reading in Butte County and the surrounding areas. The all-volunteer, non-profit organization is made up of retired educators, librarians and members of the business and service communities. Other BLC projects include: Books for Babies, For The Love of Reading, and a Juvenile Hall book donation program.
