Creative Sewing Skills for Youth: Tuesdays

December 31 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Learn the basics of sewing to bring your imagination to life!       Teacher: OLETHA DeVAULT

Students will learn:

  • Basic machine operation and troubleshooting
  • What tools are essential for sewing
  • About using the basics of pressing temperatures on different fabrics and how to iron safely
  • Machine stitch settings and what they’re typically used for (straight, zigzag, reverse, lock stitch, and more)
  • How to sew regular and French seams; how to sew, straight and curved lines
  • How to insert zippers, elastic waistbands, and using interfacing

Organize your school supplies with these fun sewing projects, perfect for the whole year!

  • Make a reversible book bag to carry all your fun projects and materials in!
  • Sew a practical zipper pouch for your supplies and a cheerful pillowcase to relax with after a month of creative sewing fun!

Do your kids love bringing their own pillows when you travel, but your home pillows are too bulky? Perhaps they want a really comfy pair of pj pants or simple shorts to wear in the car. How about having a fun bucket hat to keep their hair out of their eyes when the car windows are open, or just to protect their eyes from the sun?

What if your kids could make all of these things for themselves?

Projects:      Travel pillow and carry bag      PJ/Lounge pants or simple shorts      Bucket hat

No sewing experience required. Fabric purchase by student. Some fabrics available at RFA. All sewing equipment is provided.
