Early Childhood Literacy

“The skills children need to learn to read begin to develop from birth. Parents and caregivers help young children become readers by talking and reading with them every day.  Share a story and grow a reader!”  – Jennifer Snider, First 5 Shasta.

Family/Community Resource Centers often offer literacy kits on loan as well as free books children ages 0-5 can take home to keep, all promoting the importance of reading to children. See section Parenting Support: Family & Community Resource Centers on page 47 for center contact information.
