CENTURY RIDES

Challenge Fondo 100; Durham. Annual in September. Offers a tough hilly course, a hilly but easier century-style option, & a shorter flat ride through orchards & farms. http://www.chicovelo.org.

Chico Bicycle Music Festival. Annual in June. Cancelled for 2016, but returning in 2017. Fun for all ages, this nonprofit event promoting bicycling features a bike-powered music stage, community rides & much more. http://www.chicobicyclemusicfestival.com.

Rice Valley Love Ride. Annual in February. 34-mile primarily flat loop that draws so many tandem riders it’s known as the “Love” ride. Pedal through old walnut orchards between Gridley & the Feather River, then on to the Gray Lodge Wildlife refuge. All bikes welcome. http://www.chicovelo.org.

Anderson Century Ride. Annual in May. Offers a wide range of challenges for all ages & levels, with views of Mt. Shasta & Mt. Lassen. Benefits local Lions Clubs programs.

Jamboree Century Ride; Redding. Annual in October. The North State’s longest-running cycling century offers a variety of rides for all ages & levels, including a super century. http://www.shastawheelmen.org

Biketoberfest; McCloud. Annual in September. Fun event in a charming historic town features rides for all ages & levels of experience. Castle Crags Century Ride; Castella. Annual in June, this “altitude adjustment” ride through beautiful Mt. Shasta areas is hosted by the Mt. Shasta Rotary Club. Offers five ride options that follow one or two loops. http://www.castlecragscentury.com.

Humbug Hurry Up; Yreka. This annual June event features mountain biking racing that’s fun for all ages. Its five courses include a kids race. Lower Greenhorn Park. http://www.jeffersonmountainbike.com.

Northern California Cycle Challenge; Tulelake. This “Art of Survival Century” offers varied routes of spectacular sites, & targets all experience levels. Choose touring routes of Century (with additional 18-mile option), 45-mile, 16-mile family-friendly route, or a 20-mile mountain bike forest route. Rest stops include ranger/historian talks. YMCA Mountain Bike Racing Series; Yreka. Annual in June. This competitive & challenging three-part series of evening races takes place in Upper Greenhorn
Park. Beginner to expert levels ride distances ranging from 5-15 miles.
