Helping Hands: BloodSource – Give a Gift that Truly Matters

This holiday season, kick back, relax and give a gift that truly matters. In the midst of holiday chaos, choose to give a gift that no one but another person can give. The gift of blood extends both a lifeline and a lifetime to people like Emileigh Petty.

It’s hard to imagine that the vibrant, enthusiastic and healthy young teen before you today was born with a life-threatening heart condition. A hole in Emileigh’s heart at birth would lead to two heart surgeries, both requiring blood components that can make the difference between life and death.

After one surgery at eight months, the Pettys hoped that Emileigh’s heart was fully repaired but when she was ten years old, they learned a “patch” was needed: such a simple word for such a drastic procedure, open-heart surgery.

This surgery was more difficult in that Emileigh – older, conversant and smart – was able to ask the questions that demanded faith, strength and hope from her parents.

The successful surgery meant that 13-year-old Emileigh today is free to embrace life as fully as any other young teen. School, sports and adventures with her younger sister, Addison, highlight her days. Mom and dad are free to come along!

Jennifer, Emileigh’s mom, takes a moment to remind us, “You never know if it might be someone in your life – someone special, someone important to you – who needs blood, so if you can give, please donate.”

During the holidays, there is no greater gift than one of healthy families. Blood donors help make that happen. Join our lifesaving community today!
