As its name suggests, Chico’s Inspire School of Arts and Sciences exists to inspire young people. On a day-to-day basis, Inspire “strives to motivate and empower its students to reach their intellectual, creative, personal, civic, and social potentials.” And on January 9th, 2016, the school’s efforts will go not only toward inspiring current students, but toward inspiring the community at large.
Expanding on the success of previous Galas, Inspire’s 6th annual school-wide Gala, themed “Make Your Mark,” invites community members to actually feel like Inspire students.
As in years past, the gala will showcase current students’ artistic talents, including dance, music, videography and theatre, through afternoon and evening performances. But this year offers a new element as well: Between the two performances, students and teachers will be hosting interactive tables and workshops that engage visitors in the everyday educational adventure of Inspire students.
The 2016 “super gala” arose from the mutual desire of Inspire students and staff to authentically represent and share their school from an insider’s perspective. Inspire’s reputation as “different” from mainstream education can generate a vague cloud of misconception. One goal of this year’s Gala, therefore, is to help clear away the confusion – particularly for the sake of prospective students who might benefit from this “different” kind of education.
During the interval between the performances, attendees can view displays of student work and even participate in interactive demonstrations at a variety of booths, all while enjoying delectable dishes from multiple food trucks hired for the occasion. Also during the interlude, a panel of Inspire students will take the stage, affording prospective students and their families the chance to ask questions and learn about the school from those who know it most intimately.
Stimulated by the “Make Your Mark” theme, students have worked collaboratively to produce original, cross-subject works for this special community event. The performances will feature Inspire’s pop bands, orchestra, choir, musical theatre troupe, dance and choreography companies, and presentations from Inspire’s Spanish classes, visual arts department, and engineering program. Don’t miss this fun opportunity to support education – and perhaps become “Inspired” yourself!
