Families in Business – Snapshots Photobooth

On their first date, Michelle Mischell and her husband Troy commemorated that special time together by visiting a photo booth. So it makes sense that today the enthusiastic couple makes a living capturing memories at weddings, parties and community events with their business Snapshots Photobooths, providing guests with quirky fun, entertainment and keepsakes.

art-815-fib-ss2What began eight years ago as a way for Michelle to make extra income for her growing family has expanded to include nine photo booths, an open-air booth, a Flipbook studio, and two Volkswagen PhotoBuses that travel to events throughout the North State.

In April of 2007, the Mischell’s custom built a photobooth and began offering it for free at any event they could. “We had to sell the concept of a photo booth at a party,” explains Michelle. “We were the first photo booth company from Sacramento to the Oregon border. Every event we did, everyone loved it so much we always got another event booking; that is how we grew.”

Today’s demand for photo booth services keeps the Mischell family busy. Their two children, ages 5 and 8, help set up by carrying stools, poles, props, curtains and whatever else they can. Michelle does the office work and operations of the company, while Troy builds the photo booths and does pickup and delivery.  He also restored the inside of the photo buses.

One of the family’s favorite things to do together is create photo booth props. Troy hand cuts and designs the smitten sticks and the children paint the mustaches, glasses and lips. Michelle designs and sews the hats and other props. “We love working the events and sharing the fun,” says Michelle. “There is nothing that makes us happier than hearing the laughter of people in our photo booths, and watching them dress up in silly props and just letting go.”

“I love my new name ‘The Photo Booth Lady,’” says Michelle. “It makes my day when I see a couple holding their baby and they introduce the baby to me by saying, ‘this is the Photo Booth Lady that had the photo booth at our wedding.’” She adds, “Newlyweds love the wedding-day memory/guest book we create for them with photos of their guests and sweet messages written beside each guest’s photo.”

“We have also enjoyed becoming a tradition for families and couples who take photos annually in our photo booths at community events like Taste of Chico, Taste of Redding, Chico’s Christmas Preview and many more.”

The Snapshots family looks forward to many more years of silly fun, traditions, and watching families grow.
