Consider Summer Tutoring


School’s nearly out for summer. Are you thinking about ways to give your child an educational boost, or brainstorming ways to keep your child’s mental skills sharp? Tutoring can help strengthen learning in specific subjects and can help your child prepare for next year’s grade level.

The following services can help keep learning fresh – and fun – over the summer: 

Butte County

Chico Center For Learning; Chico. Ages 5-14. Offers one-on-one tutoring services, specializing in reading and math. 260 Cohasset Rd. Suite 110. (530) 343-2980. 

Chico Tutoring; Chico. Ages 8-14.  Provides a personalized approach to tutoring utilizing online resources and one-on-one help. ( (530) 966-5588.

Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE); Chico. All ages. CSU, Chico student volunteers provide free tutoring services on all subjects in this year-round program. ( CSU Chico, Bell Memorial Union Room 309. (530) 898-5817.

JEI Learning Center; Chico. Ages 3-18. Provides tutoring services in math, English, reading and writing. Offers SAT and ACT prep courses. ( 2500 Zanella Way, Ste. B. (530) 267-1300.

The Progressive Schoolhouse; Chico. Ages 5-16. Uses a developmental approach to tutoring in all academic subject matters. ( 2400 Notre Dame Blvd. (530) 345-5665.

Shasta County

Abba’s Child Learning Center; Anderson. Ages 4-18. Offers tutoring and remediation services. Specializes in overcoming symptoms of dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, and autistic spectrum disorders. ( 20397 River Valley Dr. (530) 247-7652.

​Thompson Reading Clinic; Redding. Ages 5 and up. Offers reading screenings and evaluations, brain skills testing, one-on-one tutoring, online training programs, and assistive technology support. 7690 Pit Rd. ( (530) 243-1052.

​Twight’s One-on-One Turoring; Redding. Ages 5-14. Grade-based tutoring in math, language arts, reading and spelling provide refreshers from last year’s work and prepares students for the coming school year. Specialized programs for learning disorders and comprehension difficulties.  1725 Oregon St. (530) 917-0341. 

Siskiyou County

Donna Boyd; S. Siskiyou County. Offers tutoring for all ages, levels and learning styles. All academic topics; math through AP Calculus. Donna holds a bachelor’s degree in math. (530) 925-4750.

Truely Hutchinson; Mt. Shasta. Ages K-12. Specializes in mathematics and language arts. Truely holds a bachelor’s degree in math, a California Teaching Certificate and a California Reading Credential.  ( (530) 921-2528.
