Families in Business: First Class Shuttle

Bigweld, the fictional entrepreneur in the movie Robots, had a catchphrase that summed up his business philosophy: “See a need, fill a need.” That’s exactly what Eric Vickery and his family did when they started First Class Shuttle to provide shuttle service for weary travellers commuting between Redding and the Sacramento airport.

“I’m a dental consultant and I travel for work periodically,” says Eric. “The late night drive home from the Sacramento airport really proved tiring.” His unsuccessful search for relief from the drudgery of that commute made him realize there was a need not being filled in the North State. “There was no service like this, and with fewer travel options out of Redding, there was a glaring need for people trying to get to Sacramento in a cost-effective manner,” he explains.

Armed with a business degree from Simpson University and business experience gained from his consulting job, Eric and his stepfather, Steve Rudd, were able to jump through all the hoops required to start the business and were soon up and running. The shuttle now provides transportation for travellers between Redding and the Sacramento Airport on a regular schedule throughout the week, including stops in Red Bluff, Corning, Willows and Orland.

Since the genesis of First Class Shuttle, the business has continued to grow. To meet increasing demand, Eric’s wife, Abby Vickery, and his mother, Kerry Rudd, have since joined the company, helping expand and improve the services offered. Eric says being involved in a family business is fun because everyone gets to share in the joy and satisfaction of pursuing a vision together, creating something that will live on for a very long time.

In addition to the regular airport run, First Class Shuttle has a Chrysler 300 Limousine, a Cadillac Escalade, and a GMC Denali, all available for private rental to any destination. The company also gives back to the community by donating limo services to support non-profit events and fundraisers.

The next time you need to fly out of Sacramento, why not enjoy the luxury of First Class Shuttle’s spacious 14-passenger van with free Wi-Fi? Kick back, get some work done, or just take a nap and leave the driving to the professionals. You’ll be there before you know it.
