Banked on the edge of the beautiful  meandering Trinity River and surrounded by the Trinity Wilderness Area, Strawhouse Resorts is a truly magical place for your next getaway, anniversary celebration, church or corporate group event, family reunion, or  wedding event. Taking a drive to the coast? It’s also an easy place to stop for a delicious organic meal, baked goods and organic coffee while traveling on Highway 299. The mustard yellow Strawhouse building will catch your eye and please your artistic senses once you arrive inside its thick walls.

Accommodations

The resort sits next to the coffee house and offers modern and very comfortable accommodations perched just above the river, including four small cottages and a 30-foot yurt; RV sites are also available. The cottages each sleep up to five guests, and feature a living/dining area, kitchen, private bedroom, loft sleeping area, and large deck.

The yurt is a unique and tranquil place to stay, and includes a clawfoot tub/shower, bamboo flooring, heating and air conditioning, and a loft where guests typically spend time reading, relaxing, and watching the stars at night. There is a large deck and private river access, perfect for a family vacation or romantic adventure.

Whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, bird watching, and fishing are some of the activities Strawhouse guests enjoy, and the opportunity to just relax is an option many guests choose to take advantage of!

Friendly proprietors Don and Julia Ellis take care of their guests with warmth and excellent service.

Food, beverages and art at the café

The Strawhouse Café is a 2000 square foot straw bale structure with a wonderful view of the Trinity River. The café serves fresh-roasted organic coffee, fresh-baked organic goods, tasty breakfast and lunch options, and wood-fired pizzas. A delicious dinner is available to overnight guests by reservation.

Coffee lovers will appreciate organic coffee that’s roasted on-site to perfection – a Strawhouse specialty for over a decade. High-quality and mostly fair-trade coffee products are available at the Café, online, and at some markets; wholesale accounts include coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores.  The Café also offers a selection of micro brews, local wines, and Dick Taylor Craft Chocolates.

The Café is open year round, daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m, and every Friday features traditional Neapolitan-style pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven and served from noon to 8 p.m. This specialty pizza is available all weekend during summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day), Friday/Saturday from  noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.

Inside the Café you’ll find outstanding works of local art available from talented artists, including “Fire and Light” hand-poured glass tableware and accessories made from recycled glass, “Holly Yashi” jewelry, and other wonderful local artists.

Strawhouse Resorts is located at 31301 State Hwy 299, Big Flat, approximately midway between Redding and Eureka in Northern California (approximately 75 miles west of I5 and east of Hwy 101).
